Orange County Academic Decathlon (OCAD) needs your support.

Do you want to help hard-working and dedicated teens achieve their scholastic goals? Do you want to utilize your personal and professional skills in a fast-paced and engaging volunteer opportunity?

This premiere academic competition for high school students relies heavily on community members volunteering their time, professionalism, and care to serve as the following types of judges for Saturday, May 19, 2018:

  • Speech Judge – As a Speech Judge, you will be placed on a team with two to three other community members to listen to students present speeches and evaluate them using guidelines and scoring forms provided. All judges attend a brief orientation on the morning of the event. Time commitment: 8:00am to 12:00pm

Note:

Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate. Parents who volunteer will not be placed in the same area as their child. Registered volunteers will be emailed an information packet and map two weeks prior to the event.

It is very important that all volunteers arrive promptly on competition day. If a volunteer becomes unavailable, it is critical that the Project Assistant be contacted prior to the competition day to avoid incomplete judging teams. The Orange County Academic Decathlon Association, a self-sustaining, non-profit organization, supports the annual Academic Decathlon competitions and the awards ceremonies in which individual and team winners are recognized. The Association also provides scholarships to the highest scoring overall individual students at each GPA level. In addition, the Association provides funding for the top scoring teams invited to represent Orange County at the California Academic Decathlon, held annually in March.
